Hey!
I’m Mark Gillespie, a physiotherapy resident and athletic therapist at
THE HIVE.
I am very passionate about rehabilitation with deliberate intention. What I mean by this, is that all of our treatments goals are broken down into small, achievable steps so that even on day one, you can clearly see how what you are doing now contributes to where you are trying to be. This “reverse engineering” approach applies regardless of your goals - whether you’re returning to high level competition, or your active lifestyle.
About Me
Like most people in the rehab and performance world, I’ve been active and in sports my whole life! Growing up with 3 brothers, there was never a dull or restful moment. My athletic journey began with soccer and I played competitively for a few years. However, my twin brother and I quickly learned that we loved basketball more. And by 12 years old, we made a full transition! From that point forward, our teenage years were spent playing AAU basketball in both Canada and the USA. I also played Rugby throughout high school and for a few years in a competitive mens' league.
16 year old me
When it was time to decide what I wanted to pursue in university, I just knew that if I couldn’t play sports for a living, my way of living had to be surrounded by sports and movement. And in 2022, I graduated from York University with a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology and a certificate in Athletic Therapy. At York, I treated various acute and chronic injuries in the Sports Injury Clinic and was the head therapist for the Men’s Hockey team.
That same year, I became a fully certified athletic therapist and was accepted by McMaster to pursue a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy. Fast forward to now, I am graduated and very excited to bring my wealth of knowledge and experience to THE HIVE.
In my free time I continue to play basketball and love spending time with my family.
