Dr. Melissa Corso, Sports Specialist Chiropractor + strength and conditionign coach

Hey!

I’m Dr. Melissa Corso, a sports specialist chiropractor and strength + conditioning coach at THE HIVE. I’m here to help you with your new and chronic sports injuries and to improve your athletic performance.

I’ve spent the last decade specializing in the management of sport injuries and helping recreational to professional athletes achieve their athletic and performance goals. Depending on your injury and the 'why' of your pain, my treatments include a combination of  manipulation and mobilization, soft tissue therapy (muscle release technique and functional range release), acupuncture, functional range conditioning, and progressive rehab and strengthening. I know what it takes to get you pain-free, confident in yourself and motivated to consistently put the work in to achieve your goals.

My Story

Growing up, I played rep soccer and wanted to continue playing in University but I knew I had a lot of work to do to make it at that level. I was small, so had to use any possible advantage I could. I did my own “research” trying to find nutrition, psychology and really, ANY advice that would help improve my performance. But I was always unsure whether I was doing the right thing.

Was it safe? Did it work? Was it a waste of time and effort?

The time and effort were worth it. I ended up playing for the University of Guelph (Go Gryphons!) but suffered recurring ankle sprains and debilitating low back pain, among other injuries. While I played through these injuries and was still able to find success, I felt let down by the support I received (or didn't receive) to recover and prevent future injuries from happening. I never really felt like I had someone who was looking out for what was best for me.

So, while I knew I wanted to work in both the sport and health fields, it was only after treatment with a chiropractor that I decided to pursue this career. In chiropractic college at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC),

I fell in love with strength training and realized how beneficial it would have been during my Varsity soccer days. I felt disappointed and cheated… so much potential was wasted – both in managing my injuries and potential performance. Imagine what I could have done? Achieved? Become?

In 2019, I became a Fellow of the Royal College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences (Canada), a leader in the education and development of sports chiropractic, specializing in all things sport injury, rehab and performance. It was my dream! I was able to dive into the research that I was looking for as a 16-year-old trying to become the best soccer player I could be. I finally had answers to the questions I was asking myself. Over the last decade, I’ve had the honour of learning from the best in the field, integrating my education, additional course certifications and various clinical experiences to develop a unique and creative approach to rehab and performance training for youth athletes.

I know I wouldn't have been able to compete at this level without my S+C training.

Someone who can provide you with the resources you need to become the best athlete possible, to learn from my mistakes and lost opportunities and make you feel understood and supported as you work towards your goals. I love creating a community at THE HIVE where I help youth athletes resolve pain, injury and improve performance so they can feel confident and achieve their goal of making it to the next level.
