What To Expect
When you arrive at THE HIVE, please have a seat and wait for your clinician to welcome you. We may not always have someone at the reception -- this is normal!

We always start our treatment plans with an assessment, which can be broken down into a few sections:

History
-
We learn about what brought you into the clinic
-
Once you tell us your story, we will follow-up with specific questions
-
We will also ask about your general health -- do you have any medical conditions? medications?
-
What is your lifestyle like -- what do you spend time doing? how is your nutrition, sleep, stress?
-
What are your goals? What would you like to achieve? How are you hoping we can help?
Physical Exam
-
We start by looking at your complaint to identify what is hurting or injured
-
Then we try to understand why it is hurting -- this may look like doing extra tests or look at how you're moving
-
We look at things like range of motion, strength + coordination of movement
-
To have a better understanding of why things hurt, we often look away from the area of pain -- so don't be surprised if we start testing things that don't seem related, they may be! That's why we check it out anyway.
Diagnosis
-
We will explain to you what we think is causing your pain and why it may be happening
-
Sometimes, we may not have a definitive answer for you, in this case, we may suggest further investigations -- like an x-ray or a referral to a doctor for additional tests

Plan of Management
-
Our recommendations will always depend on what your injury is and what is causing it -- there is no "one size fits all"

-
In general, we can break up our plan of management into 2 parts
-
Pain management: what can be done immediately to try and reduce or relieve your pain
-
Addressing the cause: what needs to be done consistently (and which will take time to change) to address why the pain or injury happened
-
We pride ourselves on putting you first. Our plan of management is based on our expertise and what we believe to be best for you as an athlete, considering your injury prognosis, competition schedule and long-term athletic career.
We consider the assessment an integral part of the treatment plan, and we never rush through this step.
Depending on how long this takes, this visit may or may not include treatment.
How To Prepare
There are a few things to consider before arriving to your appointment:

-
Please dress comfortably in clothing that will allow you to move without restriction
-
Please make sure the area where you are experiencing pain is accessible (that means wearing or bringing shorts or tank tops -- we want you to be comfortable and able to move around)
-
Bring or wear athletic shoes
-
If you will be requesting direct billing, please ensure you bring the relevant information from your insurer
